DIY Christmas Ornaments Made With polymer clay and UV-resin coating

Hello guys!!! I did my first Youtube video. It is a tutorial on how to make Christmas ornaments from polymer clay. You can check it out at my Youtube link above. I’ve also made these short instructions on my blog as a overview.

Material list:

  • pencil and permanent marker

  • extra fine Posca in black

  • Premo polymer clay in white

  • Clean surface for polymer clay (I used a marble tile)

  • rolling pin

  • cardstock paper

  • uv resin

  • uv nail lamp

  • brush

  • foam board

  • wire

  • Acrylic paints

First I drew the design of my ornaments on cardstock paper and cut them with an X-acto knife.

Next I kneaded polymer clay until it was softer and workable. I used the rolling pin to flatten the clay. I rolled the pin over clay between the foam board to control the thickness of the polymer clay. I placed the ornament design over the flattened clay and cut around the design with an X-acto knife. I did the same with each design. Then I put a wire loop in the clay at the top.

I set temperature to 275 F (You should check the instructions on the package of the clay that you’re using). I made sure that the temperature inside the oven was 275 F by using an oven thermometer. Once the oven had reached the desired temperature, I put in the tray of polymer clay. I set the timer for 30 minutes (the oven time depends on the thickness of the clay.). I turned off the oven after the alarm went off. I waited to let the oven cool off before I took the clay out, preventing cracking.

I drew the face and details with black Posca.

I painted them with Acrylic color. Keep painting until you achieve full coverage.

I coated my ornaments with UV-resin to get the glossy look and to protect the surface of the paint. I coated the front and the back of ornaments.

This is how it looks after coating. Time to put the ribbon on. We are done. I put them on my Christmas tree.
